|Review| MILANI eyeshadow primer

When it comes to eyeshadow primers, I admit I’m not experimental with it. For as long as I could remember I had always use Urban Decay Primer Potion (UDPP) until December last year, when my almost finish UDPP started to dry up & the tip of the handle broke because ugh, strong grip. 😆

I was in Watsons mid-Dec 2019 when I suddenly stood in front a whole section of Milani products! Since when?! Regardless, I was mildly amused to discover that this drugstore brand which (I thought) used to be very popular among beauty blogging community in late 2000s finally made it’s way into our shore. Back then, my only access to Milani was the swap community on MakeupAlley. However on Boxing Day ’19, I learned from L’officiel MY magazine that Milani was indeed just launched in Malaysia.

from my copy of L’officiel Malaysia Dec19/Jan20 issue.

Simply called Milani eyeshadow primer, the name is as straightforward as it could be. It’s a “lightweight, invisible finish” that “works on all skin tones” kinda primer. Yep, yep and yep; except I can’t really say the last part for everyone’s lids but personally, it does work on my not-oily-but-often-sweaty dark toned eyelids. I dare say, the formula works for me as well as UDPP and guess what? I’ve checked and compared both products’ ingredients and they both look soo similar~

In terms of packaging, I’ll be the first to say it doesn’t look exciting at all compared to UDPP’s Original tube in Urban Decay’s signature purple. Yet what makes up for its basic black & grey look, is it’s practicality of the packaging. I mean, who needs a doe-foot tip applicator when you could conveniently squeeze the amount of primer you desire, then blend it well using your God-given fingers? Practical AND hygienic. Yes.

in shade 01 NUDE. Looks too light here but actually blends well on my eyelids.

Available in select Watsons, it’s retail price is rm40 for a tube of 9ml. That is almost half the price but double the size of 5ml UDPP. Will I repurchase it? Well that depends; I personally like both Milani eyeshadow primer and UDPP and since one product could usually last a year, either primer is worth spending for.

Have you tried MILANI eyeshadow primer in 01 NUDE? If you have, let me know what you think about this budget beauty babe. *winks*

benefit Hoola Caramel & GALifornia Box-o-Powders

I swear I’ve sworn off benefit. For years I hadn’t bought anything from the brand I fell hard for in my mid-20s. It just happened organically; as I grew older, I grew less and less fond of this brand which tend to overhype their basic products with funky (unnecessary) packaging and “premium” price range. Plus with more commitments coming along, I simply have to economise and find cheaper alternatives. So I didn’t pay attention to this brand, until Cult Beauty came out with a 20% off promo in late January for benefit products. Oh-kay.

GALifornia blusher (full size), 5.0g. 22.50GBP on Cult Beauty UK

From what I could remember, benefit box-o-powders used to be around 12g-18g worth of products for RM125. Now I bought this (on sale) for 22.50GBP, and it’s like, five grams of blusher. Really, benefit? Sure, GALifornia has a cool-looking box with a groovy 70s vibe and the blusher is embossed with pretty sun pattern and I gotta admit, it is a lovely blusher that brigthens my cheeks. But, five.grams.of.product. For over RM125.

Hoola Caramel, 8.0g. 22.50GBP (price on promo)

Meanwhile, they’re a little generous with Hoola Caramel, a sister bronzer of Hoola and Dallas (I think). For the same price, it has 8 grams worth of product. It may be a bronzer but it’s good enough for me to be used as matte face powder especially if I go overboard with my sunscreen. I don’t really use this product often though.

Both GALifornia and Hoola Caramel come with a cute blusher brush but they’re useless. I’m much more comfortable using my H&M Beauty dual brush so I gave away these mini brushes as toys to Aida.

Are you a benefit fan? What’s your favourite blusher / bronzer ?

Birthday beauties; 2019

Kiss of Stars lipstick in Starstruck, from MAC 2019 Holiday collection. RM105

Revisiting my first birthday post back in 2016, I wrote this post with such nostalgia. Personally, I created and maintain this blog not to show off meaningless, material posessions. (That’s what Instagram is for) Rather, it serves as a visual reminder for me to look back what I already have, thus be grafetul. Be it solid family members or a friendship that stood the test of time (with annual pretty birthday presents that come with it😬)

Having said that, this year’s birthday Joanna sent me a cool MAC 2019 Holiday lipstick in shade Starstruck. It’s bright pink/purple fuchsia. And it’s glittery. If you know me, you’d definitely raised an eyebrow on this choice of lipstick. But why not? The new decade is almost here, I’m not getting any younger so why don’t I rock a glittery fuchsia lips once in a while?

Of course sweet Jo sent this lipstick along with some other cute samples, EDP vials and a full-sized lipbalm. Coz even a pair of rock-metal lips need some protection.

Then two weeks later, another parcel arrived at my doorstep. This time is another birthday presents from her too:

Drugstore gems! 💎

Gorgeous goodies from Rimmel, Bourjois and Max Factor. Well thank you dear! These beauties are enough to doll me up in the new year.

MAJOR #throwback with MAJOR major lash mascara

Oh! Hey me!

Look what I found this morning while cleaning up the back room after my coffee and cornflakes. 😄 That’s me, circa 2008-2009 right after a full on makeover from stila. Ahh stila, anyone else here feeling just as nostalgic as I do upon the mention of the very name stila?

stila cosmetics has come a long way since I first learned about the brand from seventeen Malaysia edition mag. I ADORED the brand’s on-of-a-kind illustrated ‘stila girl’ and their ever-famous lip glazes. My mind is now taken back to the very first time I went to a stila counter and bought myself a MAJOR major lash mascara, which inherently resulted to this complementary mini-photoshoot I had after the stila SA was done donning my entire face with stila products. Girl, I felt like a grown-up, buying myself a ‘grown-up makeup stuff’ from a grown-up Parkson beauty counter. Haha nostalgia! 😘

|Review| Revlon Ultimate All-in-One mascara

It has been awhile since my last post on a  mascara, my favourite go-to makeup product. After I was done with the last mascara I’d been using for three months, off to the drugstore I went to search for another wand that hopefully, won’t leave me disappointed this time. I was aware that I don’t really use Revlon products much, so I stood before the Revlon section, and a range of contrasting black-and-colour mascaras quickly caught my eyes. There are 5 different mascaras of black+blue, black+green, black+red, black+purple and black+pink packaging all to deliver different effects on lashes.

I picked up the black+red one; REVLON ULTIMATE ALL-IN-ONE mascara at about 15% less than it’s normal price of RM39.90 in Blackest Black. Packaging wise, I really love the non-traditional shape of the tube. It’s flatten as opposed to the usual cylinder mascara tubes, which makes storing of this product more effective. (doesn’t it annoy you when mascara or lipstick tubes roll off the table all the time?!) A part of the tube, the black one is velvety rubber so it leaves no visible fingerprints. Interestingly, the bristles (or mini brush, depending on the mascaras) matched the colour of the outer packaging so in my case, red Revlon Power Mini Brush™. Personally, I find this the most useless feature of any mascara. Honestly what is the point of having a coloured brush only to be dipped and darken by the product and leaves you no chance of seeing the red (or green, or blue, etc) at all? No, please don’t suggest me to wash off the brush just to ensure whether my mascara brush is, indeed red because seriously? Who in their right mind would do that?!

Okay, enough with my 2 minute rant. Now let’s move on to the product itself. Here’s what Revlon has to say about this 5-in-one multi-achieving mascara:

 • Our innovative, high-impact formula delivers 5 lash-transforming benefits, while our Revlon Power Mini Brush™ leaves no lash behind. Choosing the one has never been so simple.
• High impact formula delivers the ultimate 5 benefits in 1:
– Volume
– Length
– Definition
– Lift
– Intense Color
• Revlon Power Mini Brush™:
– Unique mini oval shape designed to reach every lash
– Hollow core designed to deposit formula for mega lash impact

After more than a month of using this mascara, I must say this one gem does deliver at least three of the five benefits promised. That is sincerely not bad at all for a multitasking mascara. I’ve been experimenting with enough mascaras to know that there is actually no such thing as multitasking mascaras, simply because different effects require different formulae. While one mascara can deliver fantastic lengthening effect, it fails to add volume to the lashes and vice versa. So “why ULTIMATE ALL-IN-ONE mascara if you’re such a smarty pants, Hanna?” Ah, I can hear your mind out loud. My answer is simple; curiousity. I’m always curious about how well can multitasking products deliver their 5, 10 or even 15 promises. *winks*

As a conclusion, REVLON ULTIMATE ALL-IN-ONE mascara is good enough for definition, adding a bit of volume and offers intense color (of Blackest Black for me). However, it doesn’t provide lengthening effect nor lift my lashes, especially with two of more coats so if you have straight lashes, you may need to curl your lashes prior to applying this mascara.

If you have used this mascara, or any other from this range please let me know what you think. Perhaps you could suggest me the other four mascaras I could try next time? Do let me know. Till then, enjoy this festive month!

|Review|GUERLAIN La Petite Robe Noire EDP

My favourite perfume will always be Cheap n Chic by Moschino, which I won one from a contest way back in 2004. However, when it comes to fragrances I don’t really stick to just one. As a person, I consider myself a loyal individual; I’m committed to my child and my spouse, I treasure my siblings, I love devoting my time to my good friends. But when it comes to wearing perfumes, I try to be as non-monogamous as possible. Ha!

At the moment, I wear  La Petite Robe Noire, an eau de parfum by Guerlain. It means Little Black Dress. Here’s how  Escentual describe this perfume:

How cute & dainty is the bottle!

Personally, I really love this perfume! Despite being EDP instead of EDT, it isn’t as strong  as how EDPs usually are. That makes it very  appropriate to be worn during the day, and at work. I work in a non-air conditioned workplace, dealing with young learners. Couple that with year-round Malaysian tropical heat and what do you get? Awful B.O. if you are super sweaty and skip the deodorant & perfume all together. That, is the reason why I really rely on perfumes to dress me up daily.

I bought a 30ml size of this EDP for RM150 at Sephora. A very good deal I’d say. They were having a sale on fragrances back in July when I bought this. Barely two months later, the 30ml bottle is now less than half-empty. Will I repurchase once this one is finished? Uh-no! GUERLAIN La Petite Robe Noire eau de parfum is sweet and sexy, chic and glamorous, and I have a great time with her. But life is too short to be stuck with one scent forever.
