Birthday beauties; 2016

Hi guys, how was everyone’s holiday?

Although I don’t celebrate Christmas, we Malaysian folks here did enjoy our long weekend, thanks to Christmas that fell on Sunday this year. I managed to catch up with my parents and had lunch with my best friend, who gave me and my girl belated birthday presents. Yay! See what I told you about December being my favourite month? *big grin*

Speaking of presents, here is a post dedicated to birthday presents (beauty products ONLY) I got this year. They aren’t a lot of them, of course but what truly matters is that these are lovely things given by my dear family and friends. Thank you again to each and every one of you for making my birthday (and my daughter’s) this year a lovely one. Oh, I also bought a few myself. Yes you read that right, I bought MY OWN birthday presents because I’m pathetic like that. Haha! Or maybe self-appreciative, depending on how you look at it.

1.Bath & Body Works set

Taking advantage of the Christmas + holiday promotion, my little sister got me a bottle of Endless Weekend fine fragrance mist and warm vanilla sugar Shower Gel, wrapped in a clear plastic and tied with a blue BBW ribbon. I love both products, which apparently are my first BBW products bought locally. Before BBW had stores in Malaysia, I had been getting BBWs from swaps or a friend in the States for years.

2.Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetic Lip Tar &  beauty goodies

This year, Joanna, my friend from Poland got me a tube of OCC Lip Tar and other fun beauty goodies! It’s our tradition to exchange birthday gifts every year. I’ve tried the NIVEA shampoo+conditoner samples, Laura Geller blusher and of course, the lip tar. Thank you dear for everything, and also for sending my daughter fun stickers & puzzle set for her 3rd birthday! *hug*

3.Shu Uemura 10% off & birthday treats

I can’t remember the last time I used or bought anything from Shu Uemura. So when I received a text message from them on Dec 1st, it got me thinking, “Why not? Isn’t this year the time for me to indulge in myself after 2 years of dealing with our daughter’s severe eczema?” As I was running out of pressed face powder, I went to the store in KLCC recently to purchase one. I got it at 10% off, along with two 15ml bottle of their best selling cleansing oil, one 15ml bottle of TSUYA skin lotion and 4 sachets of moisturizers. So the “birthday presents from us” are those three skincare products? Okay. In addition, they apparently had a Christmas promo which after done with paying and collecting my stuffs, the SA asked me to pick any card from a miniature wintery Xmas tree displayed in the store. The card I picked out bore what my other gift was; a Mika for Shu makeup pouch. Hmm…I honestly don’t get the Shu vibe from the pouch but, whatever. Freebies; “Yay!”, I presume?

4.SEPHORA BlackCard Member birthday gift

If last year’s birthday pressie was that mini eyeshadow trio, (which honestly isn’t bad, albeit basic) this year SEPHORA treated us to a mini blusher+highlighter embossed with “HAPPY” and “BIRTHDAY” on each half of the product. Sadly, I didn’t even get the chance to try the blusher because I accidently dropped it onto the floor one late night and the highlighter already shattered. Was I too clumsy? Was the product is of poor quality? Either way, I didn’t have the mood at all to salvage the remaining of the product so I tossed everything into a bin. *sobs*

That’s all of beauty products I’ve received, and bought. Did you spot anything that you have used yourself? What do you think of them, do you like em or loathe ’em? I’m especially interested in that SEPHORA 2016 Birthday Present. Please let me know what you think of the blusher if you’ve tried it.

Till then, enjoy the last few days of 2016!

December, baby

Here comes my favourite month of the year! What’s not to love about December? It’s a month of holiday seasons, be it Christmas or for us Muslim folks in Malaysia, it means month-long school holiday! It’s also the month when sales are everywhere so if you feel like some tropical vacation to end the year, please come over to this country, shop ’till you drop and help boost our economy. *ha!*

Most importantly, December is the month I a turn a year older. Being a December baby does have its perks; you are eternally a lot younger than your peers. And because December is the end of the year, a birthday in December doubles as a time to recap the year and prepare us for the following year to come in January (translation: New Year resolutions).

Have a blast in this final month of 2016!

How to empty up your tube of moisturizer

We hate products we love go to waste, don’t we? Especially when said products are expensive. At least that is what I feel. Take a look at this Moogoo Irritable Skin Balm for example; pre-GST era it used to be RM69 a tube. That is already expensive for a barely 200ml cream, especially when used daily. However, since 6% of GST was imposed in April ’15, Moogoo ISB is now RM79. That’s exactly ten Ringgit extra. I remember how the local eczema community were feeling the pinch over this dreaded price hike on almost every possible product. Thank God for natural & much cheaper alternatives, which I might be talking about in my future posts.

Back to the topic, this eczema-friendly and soothing cream is housed in a plastic tube that can easily be cut. Just make sure to sanitize the scissors prior to cutting the tube. I usually start cutting the top part and scoop up every nook and cranny of the inside of the tube. Next, I cut off the centre of the tube so that I get both the centre and the bottom of the inside of the tube. When every milimetre of the product has been completely wiped clean, then only I toss those empty plastic pieces into a dustbin.

My next victim…..

November nicknacks

How come it’s already November? Too much iflix binging coupled with workload make October went by so fast for me. Oh, last month was also the month I caught up with old friends; from good ol’ schoolmates to my best friend from college. Regular meet ups with friends is getting more and more impossible as we grow up. Please say you feel the same way too, or else I’ll feel like I’m the most pathetic friend on earth!

Anyways, here are a couple of pictures before I end this post. I hope November treats you well.  Till then,

Lunch with friends at Tony Roma’s. It was my first time here and since I brought along my daugther, I ordered this Mojo Chicken so that she could share the rice and chicken, which neither are her allergens.
The Internet has a creepy way of luring you back to your past. A Photobucket email sent to an abandoned email was what got me into this photo. It was taken ten years ago. TEN years! The British girl on the left in Sakina; a friend I met on Crunchyroll. Yep, before iflix binging, I used to anime-binge on Youtube & Crunchyroll. Sakina was also an anime fan and coincidently had her holiday in Malaysia in 2006. Unfortunately, we both lost contact. I wish her well though.

Middle of Nowhere

Cute gazebo

It’s been a little over a week since my last post so I thought, why not some update? I’m currently attending a course which spans over five days. It’s nowhere fancy. Rather, I feel like I’m in the middle of nowhere with greens, greens, and more greens. But why complain when you got fun ‘dormmates’ ? They remind me of those fun days of campus life.

The view from my window. 😂
Aida’s second appearance on M&M!

I miss my girl terribly.Sobs! This is my first time being away for over four days without her. On the first night I had trouble trying to sleep without her by my side. However it’s a relief to find out how she is easily adapting to be home minus her mama. My parents & husband were great for helping me out while I was away from home.

I have a few reviews coming up soon. I hope you all have a decent week so far. 😊

-Mascaras&Motherhood-

Hola October !

Hey guys!

So how was September to you? For Mascaras&Motherhood, it was the busiest month to date. As much  as I had a  great time last month trying out some new products, catching up with my family for a double birthday celebration and working on the blog’s Instagram account (@mascarasandmotherhood) , I am equally excited to welcome October.

To be honest, October is a busy month at work for me. But hopefully, I could squeeze in some time between work and family to keep this blog fresh throughout the month. Meanwhile, here are a couple of #throwback pictures of the last time I went a little crazy over LUSH hauls. Hey, I was heavily pregnant back then and if some LUSH makes me happy, so be it!

Happy Malaysia Day!

It’s 16th September today and that means, Malaysia Day! Us Malaysians folks know how important this day is to us. Coincidently this year Malaysia Day falls on Friday. So yay! Long weekends again!
As mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I’ll be celebrating this special day with my family as there are two birthdays today and tomorrow. Fun time!

Enjoy the long weekend and for the rest of you all over the world, I wish you have a great Saturday & Sunday.

Hello September!

For some reasons, September is my second favourite month of the year. Wait, so what’s my first fave month? You’ve  gotta stay tuned for that.😘

September is the start of the beautiful autumn season to some. It’s one of the biggest months in fashion industry (fashion weeks fellas!) Personally, September is a birthday month for 2 of my family members. Hence I cannot wait for mid-September to arrive because it’s a guarantee of double birthday celebrations for my entire family. It’s good to be with my parents and all of my siblings!

I’m planning to post more interesting reviews and discussions throught September. Meanwhile, up there is a lovely picture of my recent beauty buy; benefit “that gal” Brightening Primer. I’ve a lot to talk about this primer, which I have been falling in, out and back in again for seven years!

To quote “that gal”, let’s go from dull to darling. Stay happy and stay beautiful.

A Date with Ramadhan

Ramadhan Kareem!
image

This year, Muslims folks all over the world observe the holy month of Ramadhan as early as June 6th. For those of you who are on the northern hemisphere, fasting hours will be longer in summer. Phew, hopefully the sun won’t be fierce when summer comes soon. Meanwhile us Malaysian folks, we have about 13 to 14 hours of fasting to do everyday for thirty days of Ramadhan.

Doesn’t matter which part of the world you are now, I’m sure dates are a staple during Ramadhan. Nope, not that date, but the super fruit which is power-packed with minerals and vitamins. Natural Society lists down some of the health benefits of eating dates.

Personally, I love blending my smoothies with dates. When I feel like drinking avocado smoothie, I’ll add in 3 to 5 pieces of dried dates. That way, the nutritious smoothie tastes naturally sweet and yummy! While I was pregnant, I loved blending milk and dates and drank it during sahur to help me stay as energized  as possible while fasting.

What about you, how do you have your dates? Happy fasting from Mascaras & Motherhood!
