Birthday beauties; 2019

Kiss of Stars lipstick in Starstruck, from MAC 2019 Holiday collection. RM105

Revisiting my first birthday post back in 2016, I wrote this post with such nostalgia. Personally, I created and maintain this blog not to show off meaningless, material posessions. (That’s what Instagram is for) Rather, it serves as a visual reminder for me to look back what I already have, thus be grafetul. Be it solid family members or a friendship that stood the test of time (with annual pretty birthday presents that come with it😬)

Having said that, this year’s birthday Joanna sent me a cool MAC 2019 Holiday lipstick in shade Starstruck. It’s bright pink/purple fuchsia. And it’s glittery. If you know me, you’d definitely raised an eyebrow on this choice of lipstick. But why not? The new decade is almost here, I’m not getting any younger so why don’t I rock a glittery fuchsia lips once in a while?

Of course sweet Jo sent this lipstick along with some other cute samples, EDP vials and a full-sized lipbalm. Coz even a pair of rock-metal lips need some protection.

Then two weeks later, another parcel arrived at my doorstep. This time is another birthday presents from her too:

Drugstore gems! πŸ’Ž

Gorgeous goodies from Rimmel, Bourjois and Max Factor. Well thank you dear! These beauties are enough to doll me up in the new year.

Vacation

Sunday sunset in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.

…..used to be an unnecessary luxury ever since we have Aida almost six years ago. Financial constrains aside, her chronic eczema flare ups which most of the time were severe, hindered us from any trips we could think of. There were just too much to fear for; “Is the room sufficiently air-conditioned?” ,”Are there carpets in the room?”, “Is the water purified enough?” and our favourite even to this day; “What’s she gonna eat?”

So, no. No. No. No. No. NO VACATIONS.PERIOD. Because really, if you think one night of plush hotel bed is worth one month of flare ups and bleeding nights, then clearly you’ve never taken cared of a tiny human with eczema.

Thankfully, those days are gone. This year, we were blessed enough to squeeze in few mini vacations and sometimes, staycations usually during Aida’s doctor appointments. Case in point, just last month Aida had a great time in Malacca;

Snakes&Ladder fun, post- swimming at the water park
Even the gym is decently adequate! Too bad I only discovered this corner AFTER we’d checked out. Ah, at least I did swim during our stay here. (That’s a workout, no?)

Overall, I’m thankful for my daughter’s improving health throughout this year. Here’s hoping for more mini holidays in the following year, for our little eczema warrior’s sake.

Yes, the same sunset from the picture on top of this post. This is from last week’s day trip we took visiting family member.

BarbiexSEPHORA Collection

Remember my shameless love for Barbie? Still not getting over my MACxAladdin lovely eye palette and powder blush, I unintentionally discovered this 2018 Sephora-exclusive Barbie kit while browsing through Sephora MY Website last month.

After a sour experience with their stingy SEPHORA Black welcome gift last year, I was actually done with this brand. Really, there’s a one month duration to collect my Black Welcome Gift?! Pff! Despite decent feedbacks from their customer service team, my heart (and bank account) are already cold from the entire experience. That experience in June was the last time I ever did anything with the brand, ever. I uninstalled and unsubscribed from both the app & the enewsletter, turned the other cheek & my nose up whenever I walked past a Sephora store, and I didn’t even bother to take advantage of my member birthday reward in December (instead; I let LUSH took my money❀)

That’s it. Until June come again this year. The month when I watched Aladdin twice; the time I snatched some MACxAladdin beauties coz “It’s Aladdin!” “And look how pretty these packagings are!” And also the month, which has been exactly a year later that I snaked my eyes through Sephora MY website; hoping so much to find a few last remaining MACxAladdin products.

While luck wasn’t on my side, (Where is Genie?) I somehow came across this kit on the website;

Barbie x SEPHORA Collection (RM178)

C’mon, Barbie cap? And a black mascara included? Man I’m sold! So I caved in and order this kit in late June. Waiting patiently for this baby to arrive my doorstep.

What’s in the kit: Miniature Palette-Donut shade collection, Stylographic Fine Line eyeliner, Outrageous Extension mascara in Ultra Black, black Barbie cap.

Alas, I was left soured. Again. Although this time around it wasn’t exactly Sephora’s fault. Rather, the courier service for Sephora SG srewed up BIG time by taking a week to reach my home. Really, you couldn’t find my home add? Oh, I didn’t realised I’ve been living in a jungle and Google Map failed to locate me. Thanks for the news, Aramex.

Just like a year ago, I unistalled Sephora MY mobile app from my phone and unsubbed my email from their newsletter subs, again. This Barbie x SEPHORA Collection is lovely, it’s nostalgic. Even my kid loves the pink-and-grey ’90s boombox’. But it’s not enough, Sephora.

MACxAladdin Collection

Hands up if you’ve watched Disney’s Aladdin live action remake! *me* Hands BOTH up if you’ve watched the movie at the cinema, twice! *again,ME!* πŸ™Œ

Gosh I am a legit long-time Aladdin fan! I first watched the original animation in the 90s as a kid and fell in love with the ‘street rat’ Aladdin. Then in my early twenties circa mid-2000, I renewed my love for Disney Reinassance movies by hunting and collecting the DVDs or VCDs. My ‘Aladdin’ & ‘Aladdin and The King of Thieves’ VCDs are still securedly kept in a dusty box in the spare room.

Thus when the live action movie hit cinemas this year, I just have.got.to.see.it. I’m happy to say that I LOVE the movie! I love how Mena Massoud plays Aladdin really well and while I adore the original Princess Jasmine, I feel that the beautiful Naomi Scott gives our princess justice with her strong performance. This Aladdin fan approves! ❀

Now here’s an even sweeter thing; I got my hands on the limited edition MACxDisney’s Aladdin gems!

Since I don’t do MAC nor keep up much with beauty-related news these days, I was actually late at the MACxAladdin game. Truthfully, I only discoved about the limited edition collection AFTER I’ve watched the movie. Naturally, when I hit a MAC store three weeks ago, most products from the collection were already sold out. I’m not gonna walk out empty handed so I got myself these two products;

Princess Jasmine eyeshadow palette (RM221)
Powder Blush in Your Wish is My Command (RM122)

I love everything about these two; even the exterior packaging of pink/gold and turquois/gold boxes screams Princess Jasmine.

Did you get anything from the collection? Commend and let me know which product from the limited edition collection you love most. 😁

Out in the park

Sun’s out, and the heat is on. No, this isn’t the lovely summer sorta sun. This is Malaysia early Saturday morning in our local park. The real deal.

Which is just perfect for an annual Sports Day fun for this lil’ munchkin. πŸ˜€

Natural light was fantastic so naturally, I had to self-potrait a lil’.

Birthday beauties; 2018

How come it’s ALREADY December?! Last time I was here, I was lamenting about the long hard/easy journey of weight loss…. in July. Now it’s less than two weeks to 2019. Whoa!

But first, LUSH Cosmetics is finally here! Heck yes LUSH.in.Malaysia. πŸ’– I managed to visit the store in Pavilion KL last Sunday. Look at these colourful bath bombs! πŸ‘‡

They’ve only been here for two months but I’ve already heard mixed opinions about the price range from fellow Malaysians. Some say it’s reasonably priced yet some thinks otherwise. Personally, I had prepared myself with the fact that LUSH products aren’t gonna be cheap. I’m not gonna compare it with LUSH UK price range, which I was familiar with back when I swapped for LUSH like crazy almost a decade ago. However, I wasn’t quite prepared for some of the price tags when I was at the Pavilion store last week. RM90 bath bomb? Phew~

But overall I do feel the prices here are reasonable. Our Malaysian Ringgit hasn’t been strong these past few years to be honest. In the end, I walked out of the store with a Square Tin (RM20), 150g Golden Pear soap (RM45) and a reusable Bubble Bar Magic Wand (RM60) in my brown paper bag. *Big grin!*

With December being my birthday month, yesterday this birthday girl received a lovely birthday package from a long-time friend from Poland;

Yes, the picture is upside down and no, I can’t edit it. I need a new phone. Lol! I’m so sorry Joanna. For ruining this otherwise a beautiful image of my birthday presents.

My friend Joanna is so nice to get me my favourite Urban Decay VICE lipstick in Ravenswood. And my favourite PALMER’S Daily Calming Facial Lotion. Actually she sent me the moisturizer last month when I told her I couldn’t find it anywhere ever since I finished mine last year.

The rest are cute extras; some perfume samples, ESTEE LAUDER mini mascara, 2in1 mask, 10ml body lotion and a deoball.

She also sent some lovely birthday presents for my daughter too; a t-shirt & hair clips. Thank you!

Now, excuse me while I’m having fun with my birthday goodies…🎁

Weight loss wonder

See that second graph? The one that eerily resembles a doctor’s signature? That’s how my weight-loss journey looks like. This is what I keep reminding myself; that losing excessive body weight is not just a short-term goal. It is a journey. It may take months or maybe years. But as long as I do not throw in the towel, I sincerely believe that I will succeed. One day.

I might lose just 11kg of total body weight in 16 months. But honey, NEVER FORGET that of the 11 kilograms lost, you lost about 10kg of fat and gained about 10-12kg of muscles.

Ten kilograms of muscle GAIN.

Let that sink in.

At this point in my journey, I now identified mindless-eating as my biggest weakness. Munching on Raya cookies while watching TV at home, stuffing on crunchy rempeyek while chatting with relatives during Raya visits…all of habits that I, myself am 100% responsible for.

Not my daugther’s improving health condition. Not my partner’s undivided love (I’m one lucky gal!) Not the lack of time to go to the gym.

So be accountable, Hanna. And do something about it. It’s okay to stumble once in a while. Just remember to get up again as soon as you could.

Again, weight-loss is a long journey.

Before I leave, just look at how pretty my coffee is!

MAJOR #throwback with MAJOR major lash mascara

Oh! Hey me!

Look what I found this morning while cleaning up the back room after my coffee and cornflakes. πŸ˜„ That’s me, circa 2008-2009 right after a full on makeover from stila. Ahh stila, anyone else here feeling just as nostalgic as I do upon the mention of the very name stila?

stila cosmetics has come a long way since I first learned about the brand from seventeen Malaysia edition mag. I ADORED the brand’s on-of-a-kind illustrated ‘stila girl’ and their ever-famous lip glazes. My mind is now taken back to the very first time I went to a stila counter and bought myself a MAJOR major lash mascara, which inherently resulted to this complementary mini-photoshoot I had after the stila SA was done donning my entire face with stila products. Girl, I felt like a grown-up, buying myself a ‘grown-up makeup stuff’ from a grown-up Parkson beauty counter. Haha nostalgia! 😘

Ain’t fierce in February

Secluded in the nook of her favourite play area, in my favourite cafe

2018 hasn’t been a breezy sail for us, particularly when it comes to my daughter Aida’s health. She was hospitalised for four days earlier this month due to a secondary infection, no surprise from her on-going eczema flare ups. Even as I am writing this, she has just recovered from viral fever and occasionally coughing. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to being freaked out by my child’s sudden high fever, recurring eczema flare ups or even days of coughing. Hell I have no idea how other mothers deal with these with not one, but two, three or four children. God bless them mothers.

On a lighter note, (because I cannot stand being depressed or worried sick about my child’s health twenty-four-seven) did you remember my 12-book-reading-challenge? I am indeed, currently on my 3rd book.

Third! And it’s not even March yet!

Big deal enough for me. But hey, let’s talk about the second book I’ve read shall we?

Love, Hate & other Filters by Samira Ahmed (RM46.90) was successfully read in less than two weeks. It’s an easy read. It reminds me of a similar book I read years ago as a young adult in late 2000s, Does My Head Look Big in This? by Randa Abdel-Fattah. Instead of a story centered on an Australian born Pakistani Muslim, Love, Hate & other Filters is a story about Maya Aziz, a soon-to-be-eighteen American born Indian Muslim.

Devouring Maya’s accounts, opinions and emotions made me realised just how lucky I am to be a Muslim born and live in Malaysia, a multi racial yet very-Muslim friendly country. πŸ•Œ

That’s for February read. Are you reading anything good at the moment? πŸ˜‰

2017 Favourites

Hi guys! I hope you had a great holiday, or at least a well-spent long weekend. We are now on the final day of 2017 and traditionally, I come up with this post dedicated to the best beauty products I love this year. Read on to find out:

1. Urban Decay VICE Lipstick in Ravenswood

Sometime in March, I went to Urban Decay store in Suria KLCC to get a VICE lipstick in Unicorn for a friend’s birthday gift. “Why not get one for myself? And see why everyone has been raving about this range of lippie.” I thought to myself. Oh my, that is officially the best impulse buy I’ve done this year! It’s creamy, stays on well up to four hours even after eating lunch & gulping water every half and hour and the shade is MY kinda my-lips-but-better. Here’s me with a fresh coat of UD VICE Ravenswood lipstick:

2. Hado Labo Hydrating Lotion (Light)

With good advice from Gio , I eliminate toners completely from my skincare routine, and from my drawers. Apart from suitable moisturisers, I’ve been using this hydrating lotion from Hada Labo since last year and never look back. While the original Hydrating Lotion is popular and I can see why, this light version suits my acne prone/combination skin more. I love how it preps my skin for my serum and moisturiser to be absorbed.

3. MOOGOO Irritable Skin Balm

Since we are on the subject of moisturization, here’ s my fave body moisturiser/lotion for eczema. While it may not magically make your eczema disappear, it at least soothes my daugther’s itchy and Sahara dry skin. As for me, I usually go for this tube whenever my in between toes & fingers get super dry.

However bear in mind that it may not work when your skin is weepy*, nor may it work for everyone with eczema as like I always stress on, each and every eczema-skin is unique and different.

4. essence Mosaic Blush

Dirt cheap (barely twenty bucks). A pretty geometric pan of blusher. Gives a pretty glow on my cheeks. Need I even say more?

5. REVLON Ultra Volume Mascara

I loved the All-in-One Ultimate from the REVLON range of mascaras in 2016. This year, my ultimate love goes to one of its sister, REVLON ULTRA VOLUME Mascara. Don’t you just love the pink-and-black combo of the product packaging? But seriously, this is one heck of a good product I’ve invested in this year.

What are you favourite beauty products this year? 😊 Have a great new year’s eve and see you in 2018!

Side note: This House Brew with Milk from POP’s Eatery is the best coffee I had last week!
